The only thing that gives this amazing restaurant such a title is, probably its roof. Perhaps many of you may agree that the roof’s much like a hut’s but what has more certainty to be is that once you’ve stepped in, you’ll keep stepping in! Situated along the busy roads of Candolim, you can be anytime sure that this restaurant will be the best to break into your busy schedule and give you the break you need, to sit, to breathe, to eat. And how else would this restaurant be so great if there wasn’t anybody behind its cause for being so? It’s the chef by profession, Elvino Rodrigues, the man of the restaurant. His zeal behind this restaurant was simply built out of experiences that he had when he travelled abroad. Getting himself trained as a chef, he soon decided to bring up his very own restaurant, which now is known as ‘Floyds Hut’, the best restaurant in town rated four out of five stars from trip advisor, an American and world’s largest travel website.

Stepping into this scrumptious-tasting food restaurant, you’ll notice that this place has light golden colored walls, which in the night, makes it look beautiful, like that of a candle light color for a candle-light dinner. Oh well, you can perhaps even call it a candle-light dinner since every table has a candle in a glass which really makes the simple table setting look rather attractive with its light blending in that of the environments. The walls will also bring to your notice pictures that seem to capture you into time’s history. As the chef himself explains, the idea behind those pictures is just to ‘’keep it simple’’, to give people the idea that this restaurant is run by a Goan, not an outsider and so the pictures seem to give a very history-based depiction of India. This place embraces you to its not-so-fancy ambience, but that won’t stop you because the food they’ll bring up to your table will be as good as the one you would imagine. Right out front, they have a seafood display, so yes, you can get to know a bit of their menu right from the entrance. When it comes to service, you can almost feel their hearts. The gentle smile and amiable nature absolutely gives the restaurant a huge bonus as it only gets the customers coming. They don’t just serve you but your expectations as well!

Now for a way to start, one of the best starters would be the ‘Bakon-wrapped prawns’. The crunchiness is just perfect. So crispy, so light! As you chew on, you’ll taste that it’s unlike any other kind of prawn fry. They don’t add condiments, giving it a very bland taste which really makes it the out-of-India tourist’s favorite. If on the other hand, you’re a veggie, you can go for their Spring roll. You’ve got to try it to believe how good it is! The starters are good in themselves that you will be kept you assured that you’re in the right place. For a main course, most people would go for their ‘Lobster Termido’. Well, try it out and probably you’d be one of them. Otherwise they have a variety of stakes; tandoori’s and kebabs that get cooking in their kitchen and reaching your table, depending on your type of preference. Let the chefs know a day in advance that you want a ‘stuffed crab’ meal and they will make your ‘one day’ wait absolutely worth it! Oh, the people just love it here. According to a British couple, they say, that they can never get the food kind of experience that they get at ‘Floyd’s Hut’ in their homeland. To them, this place id their most or rather, almost daily visited place. Yet another rather very interesting thing about ‘Floyd’s Hut’ is that even though the place may be jam-packed, you can still find your dining experience, whether it be with your loved one or loved ones, very peaceful. You can easily chat above all the noise and enjoy your meal as if you were the only one in the restaurant. Floyd’s Hut won’t disappoint you, not even a bit. It’s mainly an attraction to the ‘non-Indian’ tourists as the food is cooked pretty much to suit their taste buds. Nonetheless, if you’re an Indian or a local Indian, you can order your kind of meal as well. Chef Elvino and the staff are on their feet, ready to welcome.

This place is run by love and the food is what proves it. The staffs are swift to help and the Chef, he proudly states that he runs this place all by himself and most of the staff has been with him right from the time this restaurant took its kick-off. His idea behind this restaurant is to keep it simple and his motive is definitely to bring a sense of satisfaction and happiness to his customers. He also mentions that almost 80% of the customers are daily ones. That should be enough to explain how amazing this place is!

This restaurant gives you, through the simplicity, the best dining experience you would only imagine. While the stakes get cooking and the tandooris get grilling, the place gets crowding while the chef and his staff sweat it out to keep the customers smiling. The atmosphere is filled with people’s chatter yet it so warm and cozy. If you happen to be around the Candolim streets, don’t miss out on a super ‘Floyd’s hut’ dinng experience!
