Ask most kids what their ambition in life is and a lot of them will answer ‘to be an astronaut’. It’s a fact that Indians have gone far in the world and even more so when it comes to the mysteries of space. In fact, it could soon be the reality for one young Goan girl from Margao who is waiting to hear if she has cleared the shortlist for the Kalpana Chawla National Scholarship.

Reaching for the stars with the Kalpana Chawla National Scholarship

It’s a dream come true for Ojaswi Satish Fal Dessai, a 13-year-girl from Cuncolim. She is waiting to hear if she has bagged the Kalpana Chawla National Scholarship.

Ojaswi is a student of Vidhya Vikas Academy, Margao and has been shortlisted for the prestigious Kalpana Chawla National Scholarship. If she makes it through the final cut, she will able to study at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the United States.

An education website known as Educharya.com  gave youngsters across the country a chance to fulfil the same dream. Ojaswi appeared for an online examination of Kalpana Chawla National Scholarship where she cleared the first stage. In order to make her dream a reality, she is preparing now for another exam that will bring her one step closer the Kalpana Chawla National Scholarship.

“I am eager to fulfil my dream and am excited to witness the functioning of NASA. I do not want to miss this opportunity and am confident of bagging the scholarship,” Ojaswi told the newspapers.

A hard worker with great dreams

Ojaswi is the daughter of Dr Satish Fal Dessai, who runs a dispensary at Cuncolim and of Tanuja Fal Dessai, a lecturer at Mallikarjun College, Canacona. Her older brother is studying to be a doctor.

She has truly worked hard to succeed with many laurels to her credit. She was the champion of International Pan Pacific held at Pattaya and stood third at the national level Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan in 2016. Besides, she has participated in various competitions and secured prizes in intra and inter-school activities.

Besides studies, Ojaswi loves playing chess and badminton and dreams of becoming a scientist. Everyone wishes her all the best in making it to the shortlist. We can all only hope that she succeeds in getting to NASA and giving Goa another pin on the map of success.
