From its initial budget of Rs.10 Lakhs, when it was first opened in 1973, the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs in Goa, has snowballed into a giant institution and has helped many athletes, especially in the fields of Football, Athletics, Diving, Swimming, Boxing, Judo, Baseball, Taekwondo, Chess and Shooting. These great sports men and women have gone on to represent the state at the national level.

Now, the DSYA is organising a State Youth Award for which applications have been invited form deserving youth. The date for receipt of applications has been extended to 26th August 2016, as not many have been received so far.

The award is open to all active and performing persons, who engage regularly in working with voluntary institutions, such as youth clubs and NGO’s. If their work has been highlighted as extra special, then they can apply. Those aged between 15 and 29 years are eligible to apply for the State Youth Award.

Those interested in applying for the award can download a copy of the application form at www.dsya.goa.gov.in. A hard copy of the same application form can also be collected and filled up at the Youth Section of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at Campal, in Panjim. Details of the process and the required documents can be found on their website as well.

Along with Physical Education, Sports and Games, the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs have also been active in promoting Youth related programmes, which are not particularly associated with sport. Keeping this in mind, the Goan youth should come forward and take advantage of schemes such as the State Youth Award, which will not only reward, but also recognize one’s formidable efforts. Also if you know of anyone whom you feel is humble and deserving of this accolade, you may recommend their name.
