Salgaocar Football Club lift Goan Champions Trophy

Salgaocar Football Club added another feather to their cap as they emerged victorious in the Goa Football Association’s Champions Trophy. The tie was played at the Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Sunday, between Sporting Clube de Goa and Salgaocar Football Club.

The game was drawn at 1-1 at the end of normal time. The scorers of the game were Souvik Das and Cajetan Fernandes, both converted goals from the spot for their respective teams. In spite of Sporting Clube de Goa playing most of the second half without a man, following the sending-off of Joseph Clemente, Salgaocar were unable to break the deadlock.

The ensuing penalty was scored by Souvik Das who recently completed his move from Sporting to the cross town rivals this season. The match progressed into penalty shoot-out where Salgaocar FC edged past Sporting 7-6 after Sporting’s Joseph Pereira failed to score in sudden death.
