Situated at the beginning of Candolim’s Holiday Street, Taste of China serves some authentic, tasty food from the Orient, from China, Thailand and a few Indonesian in an alfresco setting. Of course, everything is painted crimson, red lanterns in open air surroundings so you know this is the real Chinese. The menu is quite elaborate with starters, soups, main courses, vegetarian, pork, beef, chicken, duck, seafood rice and noodles, with lots of different options. For vegetarian starters we suggest the Shanghai Chilli Paneer or Thai Chilly Potatoes, both spicy stir fries, and in soups you could have the Tom Yum Phak, a spicy Thai soup with lemon grass and galangal – very herbal Thai taste. Or start with the prawns on toast or perhaps the chicken taronest (crispy nest style preparation).

There’s lots more, specially for the carnivores, like Pork Spare Ribs. You could also have the Prawn Tempura, batter coated fried prawns or the Golden Sand Prawns, or the Crispy Duck – fried silvers of duck. For a proper meal, try the Chef’s Special Rice, which is veg, and combine it with the fragrant Pork Malaka Sauce, flour-coated fried pork in spicy Malaysian curry. Or Chicken Rendang Curry, from Indonesia. Vegetarians can opt for the veg Thai Green Curry, or Red Curry, Kaeng Phad Phak, all quite delicious, and faintly reminiscent of South Indian curries. The portions are sumptuous and the prices quite reasonable.
