The Panjim Inn is both an individual hotel and also the name given to a cluster of related heritage hotels located in the heart of the romantic Latin quarter of the capital. The Panjim Inn was Goa’s first heritage hotel and the building dates back to the late 1800’s. It was built as the home of landed gentleman and successful businessman Francis Assis D’silveria. Today the property is owned and managed by his great, great grandchildren Jack and Gitanjali Sulhija. Jack is passionate and knowledgeable about history and is an energetic member of The Goa Heritage Action Group. Make sure to ask him about his wonderful walks around the neighbourhood.
The Panjim Inn offers 12 rooms in the old house and 12 in a newly rebuilt section. There is also the lovely Veranda Café, which is one of my favourite places for a coffee or a drink in Panjim. Opposite here, in an elegant 1880’s building, is The Panjim Peoples. The spacious bedrooms are furnished with antiques. Nearby is also my favourite property The Panjim Pousada, located in an old Hindu house, this nine-room hotel has a charming central courtyard. Rooms 11 and 14 on the first floor share a lovely veranda overlooking an old breadfruit tree. Across the three properties, rooms range from Rs.2,500 to Rs.9,000 high season, and are heavily discounted in the monsoon.
