SVÉRVE Beauty

For Sukanya Manerikar, founder of SVÉRVE Beauty, understanding beauty has always begun with understanding skin. A professional makeup artist with more than 12 years of experience, she has worked with thousands of faces, particularly brides, gaining a close understanding of how skin behaves beyond the controlled environment of a beauty counter or product laboratory. Humidity, long hours, sensitive skin, layering products and the demands of special occasions have all shaped her perspective on what beauty products truly need to deliver.
That experience eventually led to a question that became central to SVÉRVE: why are skincare and makeup treated as two separate worlds when both have to work together on the same face?
The answer became the foundation of the brand. SVÉRVE was created to occupy the space between skincare and makeup, developing multifunctional products that care for the skin while delivering the performance, finish and ease expected from beauty products. Its name reflects this philosophy, representing a change in direction and a willingness to approach familiar beauty routines differently.
Born From Real Skin Experiences
SVÉRVE’s philosophy is deeply rooted in Sukanya’s years as a makeup artist. Over time, she encountered recurring challenges that went beyond achieving the right shade or finish. Makeup could separate because the skin had not been prepared properly. Certain sunscreens did not layer comfortably beneath foundation. Sensitive and reactive skin could become uncomfortable, while clients with compromised skin barriers often found themselves struggling despite using expensive products.
These experiences highlighted a gap between product performance and skin health. For SVÉRVE, flawless-looking makeup alone was not enough if the skin underneath was being overlooked.
The brand therefore takes a skin-first approach to beauty, with formulations designed to be gentle and barrier-supportive while remaining functional in everyday routines. Its products are intended to work with sensitive skin rather than treating sensitivity as an afterthought or simply a marketing consideration.
This approach also comes from working closely with diverse Indian skin tones and experiencing first-hand how products behave in real conditions. Rather than developing around beauty trends alone, SVÉRVE considers what consumers actually experience: how a formula feels, how it layers, how it responds to Indian weather and how comfortably it performs beneath makeup.
More Than One Job
At the heart of SVÉRVE is the belief that beauty routines do not necessarily need more products; they need better ones. The brand focuses on multifunctionality, with each product expected to serve a clear purpose while performing that role well.
Its first product reflects this thinking. More than a sunscreen, it is designed to hydrate, support the skin barrier and function as a base beneath makeup. It represents the kind of hybrid beauty product SVÉRVE aims to develop, bringing together the care associated with skincare and the finish and performance associated with makeup.
The same philosophy is intended to guide the brand as it expands. Rather than separating complexion, preparation and treatment into increasingly complicated routines, SVÉRVE seeks to create products that can naturally work across these categories.
Building a Beauty Brand From Goa
Creating a beauty company from Goa has brought its own set of challenges. Much of the manufacturing, formulation, packaging and supporting beauty infrastructure is located outside the state, requiring considerable travel, sampling, follow-ups and coordination during the development process.
Yet Goa remains central to SVÉRVE’s identity. For Sukanya, the state has influenced her understanding of beauty as something effortless, practical and comfortable, rather than overly complicated. The decision to build the company there also reflects a larger belief that ambitious brands with national or international potential do not necessarily have to originate in traditional metropolitan business centres.
For SVÉRVE, Goa is not simply where the company happens to be based. It is part of the story behind how the brand sees beauty and how its founder wants to build it.
A Partnership Behind the Brand
Sukanya is joined by her husband, Sarvesh S. P. Bandodkar, who serves as co-founder and brings a complementary perspective to the business. While Sukanya’s background in beauty informs product development, formulation, branding, communication and consumer understanding, Sarvesh contributes his business and operational experience.
His focus includes commercial decisions, scalability and the practical considerations involved in growing a company. The contrast between their strengths has become an important part of the way SVÉRVE operates. Where Sukanya may focus intensely on the details of a formula, texture, finish or creative direction, Sarvesh provides another lens through which those decisions can be assessed.
Their partnership extends beyond formal business discussions. Building a company together means that ideas and decisions can surface at almost any time, but the shared objective remains the same: to create something meaningful with long-term potential.
The Work Behind a Single Product
The polished product a consumer eventually sees represents only a small part of the development process. Behind every tube is a series of formulations, samples, tests, packaging decisions, manufacturing considerations, compliance requirements and logistical challenges.
For Sukanya, one of the biggest lessons of building SVÉRVE has been understanding just how much work goes into creating a single beauty product. Formulations may need to be rejected or reworked, packaging can present limitations, manufacturing can take longer than expected and minimum order quantities can influence decisions. Each stage requires attention to detail.
Her perfectionism has consequently become both an advantage and a challenge. She pays close attention to the formula, texture, finish, packaging and overall experience of using a product. That can mean taking longer to reach the final version, but it also reflects a clear principle: SVÉRVE would rather take more time than introduce something its founders do not fully believe in.
The experience has also reinforced an important distinction between creating a product and building a brand. A strong formulation is only the beginning. Consumer trust, clear communication and a genuine reason for choosing the product are equally important in establishing a lasting presence in the market.
A Thoughtful Future
SVÉRVE’s ambitions extend well beyond its first product. The larger vision is to create an ecosystem of skin-first beauty products that continue to bridge skincare and makeup. Future possibilities include skin-preparation products, complexion hybrids, lip products and other categories where the brand identifies a genuine consumer need.
However, growth is not being approached simply through an expanding product count. The intention is to develop the range carefully, with every product having a clear purpose rather than adding to the market simply for the sake of variety.
India is the starting point, but the long-term ambition reaches further. Sukanya envisions SVÉRVE becoming an Indian-born global beauty brand, eventually finding its way onto international shelves while retaining the connection to Goa from which it began.
Creativity Beyond Beauty
Sukanya’s creative interests extend well beyond makeup and product development. A trained Indian classical singer and Bharatanatyam dancer, she also grew up as a state-level chess player, experiences that reflect the varied interests that have shaped her personality.
Fitness, travel, discovering new beauty products and creating content are also part of her life. Her curiosity frequently turns ordinary experiences into opportunities for observation. Even while travelling or shopping, she finds herself noticing packaging, textures, retail experiences and consumer behaviour.
That curiosity has become an integral part of SVÉRVE. What might begin as an interest in a product, a package or a small design detail can become a deeper consideration of why something works and how it could be improved.
It is this attention to detail, combined with more than a decade of working directly with real skin, that continues to shape SVÉRVE Beauty. Rather than choosing between skincare and makeup, the brand is building its identity around the idea that the two can work together. From its beginnings in Goa to its aspirations beyond India, SVÉRVE is taking a considered approach to beauty, one product and one real-world experience at a time.
