Amigos is located in the most scenic part of Nerul. Just below the Nerul bridge and nestling along the river bank is this little hamlet with no pretensions of glamour. A cement floor with a few tables and chairs over looks the serene blue river winding itself under the bridge, lush green mangroves from which a few birds fluttered for their afternoon snack and a lonely canoe with a fisher man paddling down the watery expanse. A little discussion brings out the fact that the meat, chicken, beef and pork are prepared in the chilly fry variety and vindaloo preparation. And fish? Meet Sabita Fernandes the lady behind the enterprise and the one who works her magic on the masalas.
The restaurant stemmed out of her husband Josefat’s idea.Baby Tiger prawns and Red Snapper Raechad-take a bite of that crustacean delicacy, the crusty coating of the prawns mask the sweet tenderness of the prawn flavour. And the subtle marination does not detract from the freshness. The masalas she has learned from her mother are all ground on the rogdo and as compared to tamarind and onions, the vinegar in her masalas do the trick as Josefat goes out fishing in his canoe and nets the most delicious crabs and oysters. The crabs are displayed wriggling onto the table. It is served with an excellent butter sauce. The Prawn Curry,Unpolished rice and the local reparation of Bhindi Bhaji was there to sample.Cooked on wood fire, there is also a meal plate that is changed every day.Head to this place for some basic home cooked food.
