Baale BPS Open 2025 Off to a Smashing Start; Arnam Ghosh Blazes Through to the Men’s Open Singles Quarterfinals

~ The second edition of the Baale BPS Open 2025, supported by the Goa State Tennis Association and the Baale Resort Goa, recently kicked off at the B.P.S. Sports Club, Margao.

Kicking off the second edition of the Baale BPS Open 2025 with high octane on court performances, Arnam Ghosh qualified for the quarterfinals in the men’s open singles category, defeating his opponents in the second round and pre-quarterfinals with a score of 6-1. 

In the same category Prithvi Naik beat Kishor Metry 6-0, Anup Sardesai defeated Vihaan Prijeeth Krishnan 6-1, Saurish Naik vanquished Chetan Dattaram Rane 6-2, Rahul Pinto overpowered Saurabh Trivedi 6-3 and Joao Sousa one-upped Vinod Kumar 6-4 in the category’s other first round matches. 

Round two of the men’s open singles category saw Nishad Shevde, Dmitry Smirnov, Siddharth Nunes and Prince Agnelo Joven de Silva play a powerful game and win with a score of 6-0 against their respective opponents Amulya Sethi, Joshua Cardozo, Dr Suraj S Patlekar and Joao Sousa. Arnam Ghosh, who got a bye in the first round, and Pankaj Naik handed Anup Sardesai and Allan Fernandes defeats with a score of 6-1, respectively, while Lyndon JP trounced Arhan Gaunkar 6-2; Jai Gill beat Saurish Naik 6-3 and Prithvi Naik fought hard to overcome Wes Ryan Cardoso’s challenge 6-4.

In round three, which served as the pre-quarterfinals, Arnam Ghosh trumped Lyndon JP 6-1; and Siddharth Nunes breezed through his match against Ojasvi Singh Mann 6-0.

The second edition of the Baale BPS Open 2025, supported by the Goa State Tennis Association and the Baale Resort Goa, recently commenced at the B.P.S Sports Club, Margao, with several matches underway.

Having witnessed several matches commencing early in the day, the ever-growing passion for tennis in the state is admirable, and we are glad to have a part in helping take the sport forward professionally in Goa. We wish the players all the very best in the tournament,” said Yogiraj Kamat, president, B.P.S Sports Club, at the formal inauguration of the tourney. 

Speaking at the inaugural, Vikram Verlekar, sports chairman of the B.P.S Sports Club said, “The addition of the Ladies Doubles and the Wheelchair Tennis Challenger Tournament has been a significant step in making the Baale BPS Open more inclusive and competitive. It’s been great to see the enthusiasm and talent in these new categories, and we look forward to even greater participation in the future. Wishing all the players the very best.”

The tournament will be on till February 23, with unique categories, including the Under-10 category and Wheelchair Tennis Challenger Tournament, opening new avenues for tennis in the state.
