With summer vacations winding down, the kids are at home and all the parents are wondering what to do with them away from their mobile phone screens the whole day. Thankfully, Goa is more than just sun-kissed beaches and vibrant nightlife; it also has places that spark curiosity and creativity in children. Here are some things for kids to do before the academic year resumes/starts.
1. Sagar Safar (Drishti Marine)

Six Beaches Across Goa
A classic summer activity… visiting the beach, enjoying the waves, playing in the sand and all having the fun that comes with it. But if you want to try something different, check out Sagar Safar, a guided sea-swimming initiative launched by Drishti Marine, Goa’s government-appointed lifesaving agency, in collaboration with the state government. Sessions are conducted daily at 11 am and 4 pm across six major beaches: Colva and Benaulim in South Goa, and Sinquerim, Candolim, Baga and Calangute in North Goa. After signing up for the activity on the spot, Drishti Marine lifesavers teach parents as well as kids about the ocean: its currents, colour-coded flag signals, the pull of a rip tide, and the confidence to enter and exit the water safely. For children, as well as parents who are nervous about venturing into the water, it’s valuable hands-on learning like none other. Just walk up to lifesavers stationed at the beaches and enrol by scanning a QR code and registering. It’s as simple as that, and completely free.
2. Museum of Goa

Pilerne, North Goa
The Museum of Goa, one of the country’s finest contemporary art institutions is definitely a destination worth visiting with children. Founded with the mission of making art accessible to a broader audience, MOG combines culture, storytelling, and visual art in a way that speaks to curious young minds as much as it does to adults. Its galleries shift regularly, which means no two visits are quite the same, and the museum’s open, unhurried atmosphere makes it easy for kids to engage at their own pace. The on-site MOG Art Café is a bonus as a calm, creative spot to wind down after a wander through the exhibitions. Located in Pilerne, North Goa, it’s the kind of place that quietly plants a love for art without ever making a fuss about it.
3. The Aguad Interactive Museum (Aguad Port and Jail Complex)

Candolim, North Goa
Situated at the historic Aguad Port and Jail Complex, once used as a water-refilling facility for passing ships and later as a jail that housed freedom fighters who fought for Goa’s liberation, the Aguad Interactive Museum now hosts multi-cultural activities and events. Housed in the decommissioned Central Jail, the museum tells the story of Goa across three immersive chapters: The Land, The Struggle and The People. QR-coded audio guides, interactive digital kiosks and documentary screenings featuring rare films on Goa’s freedom struggle and forts immerse children in history as though they were watching it unfold before their eyes. For older children, walking through the jail cells and seeing the statues of freedom fighters adds emotional depth to the experience. The port’s seaside setting next to Sinquerim beach further enhances the visit.
4. Goa Science Centre and Planetarium

Miramar, Panjim
The Goa Science Centre and Planetarium remains a favourite among schools and students across the state. Its interactive galleries, 3D shows and planetarium shows attract visitors every day. The science centre’s exhibits cover everything from energy and environment to human biology and optical illusions- inviting children to touch, press and interact rather than simply observe. It is open throughout the year from 11 am to 6 pm. Planetarium shows are held at 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm and 5 pm, while 3D shows take place at 10.30 am, 12.30 pm, 2.30 pm and 4.30 pm. These galleries and shows help nurture curiosity and inspire children to think about how the world works. The immersive programmes take audiences through the cosmos, from neighbouring planets to the outermost edges of the observable universe. During summer, special programming for children often supplements the regular schedule, so it is advisable to check ahead for showtimes and seasonal events.
5. Bondla Zoo (Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary)

Ponda, Central Goa
Nestled within the lush Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary in Ponda, Bondla Zoo is Goa’s only zoological park and a popular eco-tourism destination. The zoo is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, except on Mondays. Entry fees are Rs 5 for adults and Rs 2 for children, with additional charges for cameras and parking. Small in scale but rich in character, the zoo is home to animals including deer, gaur, porcupines, birds and reptiles. Unlike larger urban zoos, Bondla’s forest setting makes a visit feel like a genuine outing into nature rather than a walk through an urban grid of enclosures. The sanctuary also includes a nature trail, mini-train rides and garden spaces, making it an enjoyable half-day outing for families with younger children.
With summer in Goa coming to a close, it often gets a bad reputation: packed beaches, overcrowded tourist spots and blistering heat. But beyond the seasonal rush lies the state in its truest form; its stories, science, art, wildlife and sea. And these five experiences are not just distractions for children; they are introductions to entirely new worlds waiting to be explored.
