FOR THE LOVE OF ADVENTURE

Backpacking her passion and riding his. Meet Iyron and Sasha D’Silva, Goan Aussies who finally arrived Goa after a momentous ride across continents.

Stung by the adventure bug, they decided to create their own version of the motorcycle diaries, when they embarked upon a journey from the Australian city of Brisbane to their homeland, Goa.

Iyron and Sasha D’Silva travelled across eight nations, covering 24,000km during their eight-month-long journey, which finally culminated in Goa on Saturday when their motorbike stopped along the banks of River Mandovi.

Talking about their motivation to go on such an adventure, Iyron said they were inspired by others who went on such long expeditions.
“We were just sitting in our house in Brisbane when we saw a video of a person doing a similar trip. We decided to do it as well. We prepared for over two-and-a-half years, worked on the bike myself and only then began our trip,” Iyron, said.

INDIA WAS THE TOUGHEST PART OF THEIR JOURNEY

The duo began the journey on August 21, 2016. They passed through Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar and Bhutan before reaching India.

“The toughest part of the journey was definitely India. There were multiple instances of trucks coming into our lane to overtake and forcing us to go off the road,” Iyron said.

While Iyron stayed on the wheels, Sasha went on multiple solo tracks during the expedition to interact with the local population in the different countries.

“I would get off the bike at certain places and do my solo backpacking trips. When you’re on the bike, you can’t explore the places as much as you want. We all have different stereotypes about people and countries but that changes when you meet people,” she said.

The couple is now planning to save money and cover the South American continent on their motorcycle, next year.

Itsgoa.com wishes Iyron and Sasha all the best on their future adventures.
