Recently the Goa IT Professionals (GITP) launched a project that puts public transport timetables on Google Maps. Which means, every Goan can access this information!
Public Transport with Google Maps
The Google project was executed by a group of final year students as part of their curriculum. This project was executed under the guidance of the Goa IT Professionals (GITP). Chaitanya Malik a group member decided to offer the project as a service to the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) and the River Navigation Department. Every citizen can access time tables, routes and boarding points at their fingertips.
Apart from Google, the data is also available at http:it.do/mygoa or Google Maps Mobile App. With the convenience of knowing bus and ferry timings at the tips of your fingers, the project encourages citizens to prefer public transport over personal vehicles for their daily commute. Thereby reducing congestion on roads.
Presently, the information published consists of 90 bus routes out of 300 and all the ferry routes in Goa. Since the data is available online freely, tourists visiting the state can also benefit. Hopefully over time, Goa will catch up with the Global IT revolution.
