Chef Rumana Conducts Wedding Cake Masterclass at Kamaxi Culinary College, Verna

~ The wedding industry in India is an extremely lucrative one, expected to rake in Rs. 4.25 lakh crores solely between November 23 and December 15, 2023, according to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).

~ The four-day masterclass on wedding cakes recently conducted by Chef Rumana Jaseel at Kamaxi College of Culinary Arts, Verna, taught students fine baking and decorating skills. 

~ The masterclass also included teaching students marketing strategies to grow their businesses.

Panaji, December 2023 – The business of weddings in India is pegged at Rs. 4.25 lakh crore in the auspicious November-December season and with Goa accounting for a significant slice of the wedding industry pie, Verna-based Kamaxi College of Culinary Arts (KCCA) organised a four-day masterclass recently to familiarise its students with the intricacies of baking wedding cakes. 

The exclusive masterclass at KCCA, India’s first culinary business school, was conducted by Chef Rumana Jaseel, owner of Incredible Art – Artisan Cake Boutique in Kochi and an Executive Pastry Chef and Chocolatier.

Chef Rumana’s other prestigious accolades include winning the Best Pastry Chef at the Restaurant India Awards in 2017 and 2018 and the Best Patisserie and Chocolatier of the Year at the Global Food & Hospitality Award 2023 and more.

With an illustrious career spanning over 16 years, Jaseel utilised her cumulative experience and knowledge to impart to students the art of baking and crafting elaborate cakes, which often take centre-stage at weddings.

“Over four days, students were taught practical baking and cake decorating skills as well as business and marketing strategies for wedding cake design. The masterclass culminated with a group display to celebrate the students’ work across the masterclass,” stated Chef Rumana.

According to Siddharth Savkur, CEO, Kamaxi Group, students at the Institute are given opportunities to learn from culinary industry experts through masterclasses, demonstrations, site visits or online meets to be well-equipped to join the industry.
