The derailment of two wagons and a brake van of a goods train occurred on Tuesday at the Madgaon -Mangalore section between Ankola and Gokarna. Further, the incident resulted in the termination of several passenger trains.
The termination, rescheduling or cancellation of passenger trains included:
- 70106 Mangalore-Madgaon DEMU terminated at Udupi
- 56641 Madgaon-Mangalore Passenger terminated at Karwar
- 22635 Madgaon-Mangalore Intercity cancelled
- 12134 Mangalore Jn-Mumbai CSTM Express rescheduled and delayed by 6 hours
Many passengers travelling home for the weekend were affected. They were returning home for the festive season of Ganesh Chaturthi. The derailment caused inconveniences to many.
