Don Bosco College, Panjim hosts Magnify 2024

On October 1, 2024, Don Bosco College, Panjim, hosted Magnify 2024, an inter-collegiate event centered on the theme ‘Peace in Travel and Tourism’. Organised by the Department of Business Administration (Travel & Tourism), this annual event brought together students from four colleges, namely St. Xavier’s College-Mapusa, Rosary College of Commerce and Arts-Navelim, Saraswat Vidyalaya’s Sridora Caculo College of Commerce and Management Studies, and Integrated MBA at Goa University, to explore how the travel and tourism industry can be a channel for global harmony.

The event opened with a warm welcome by Nuela Barbosa, setting the stage for an inspiring day. The inaugural was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest Mr Milind Anvekar, Director of Don Bosco College Rev Fr Joaquim Lobo, Principal Dr Cedric Silveira, Head of the BBA T&T Department Ms Glenda Mascarenhas, and Faculty Event in-charge Ms Shareen Alphonso. The dignitaries were escorted to the stage by Bryan Cruz Charles, the student event in-charge, following which the college anthem was played.

Asst Professor Nafisa da Costa Frias introduced the theme of Magnify 2024, followed by the lighting of the traditional lamp. Rev Fr Joaquim Lobo addressed the gathering, emphasising the importance of peace within the tourism industry. Asst Professor Vandana Patil introduced the Chief Guest Mr Milind Anvekar, who shared his valuable insight on fostering peace through tourism. After the inaugural ceremony, a memento was presented to the chief guest, and the event proceeded with a panel discussion featuring industry experts Mr Gavin Dias, Mr Murali Shankaran and Chief Guest Mr Milind Anvekar, moderated by Mrs Barbara Lornie. The panel discussed the role of tourism in building a peaceful global community.

Magnify 2024 also featured a variety of on-stage and off-stage competitions, including Pitch For Peace: Entrepreneurs Edge, Peace Talks: Voices For A Tranquil Tomorrow, Place Your Argument, The Tranquil Magnitude and Peaceful Passage: Secure Steps. After much anticipation, St. Xavier’s College (Team Totabi) emerged as the overall champions, while Integrated MBA Goa University (Team Matkustaa) were declared the runners-up. Magnify 2024 ended with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Bryan Charles, marking the close of a successful event that promoted the importance of peace within the tourism industry.
