There is a tale to be told on how the fish is dressed to perfection. The dressing is a secret retained over the years, way back in 1932 to be exact. Proprietor Jude Lobo of the Souza Lobo fame brings you the tales of this dressing the red Goan masala at Neelam The Glitz, a different masala used in every fish preparation The drum of cascading water greets you as you enter. At lunch time a scenic view of lush garden in bloom and at night the crystal drop chandeliers sparkle like dew crops, leaving one with an illusion that they are swirling in abandon with the cascading effect too. The brown cross cloths on the tables are trendy; the cushioned chairs cocoon you within its embrace. On weekends local bands beat out a rhythm to drive away the blues. The chefs have packaged ina fine dining experience with homely presentations. On the menu it is the fish which has the tale to tell. Order the Goan Masala Fried Prawns, the Batter Fried Squid with Tartare sauce.
Vegetarians can crunch on old favourites like Crispy Chili Potatoes and Stuffed Papad (the vegetarian mixture has a spiced red masala). For mains, the Masala Rawa Fried Fish or prawns and the Goa Prawn Curry. Old Souza Lobo favourites like the Stuffed Crab, Crab Curry, Rawa Fried Mussels grace the menu. The Pomfret stuffed with prawns, Oyster Chilli Fry, preparations that perhaps are not found on other menus are there to be feasted upon. But coming to the tale of the dressings (masala), each on ehas a different one to tell. The starter Goan Masala Fried Prawns, a simple home made red chili paste oozing onto the plate (no vinegar added), the red masala used for the rawa fried fish a simple turmeric, chili marinade, the prawn stuffing in the pomfret raechade masala with a few drops of ketchup to give a sweet spicy taste, each fish preparation has a tale to tell. And last, but not least… the creamy orange-red hued Goa Prawn Curry…
A big plus where the local diner is concerned reasonable prices, attentive service. Desserts to die for crunchy walnut, alpine mousse, blueberry cheesecake… all in all a regular fare for all concerned, the ending of this ‘tale’ is one which keeps everyone happy.
