In India the festive season has just started.

All the celebrations come with their own signature recipes and most of them are either sweet or deep-fried. And you will agree, after a while we crave for something fresh and tangy.  This recipe is just that.

This Guava Chilli Mocktail is a tropical drink that hits all the right notes with its mix of sweet guava, tangy lime, and a little spicy chilli powder. It is sure to  give you that much refreshing break.

Do use the pink variety of guavas which imparts a beautiful pink hue to the drink.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ripe guava, chopped
  • ½ cup chilled water
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1–2 tsp honey
  • ¼ tsp roasted cumin powder
  • ¼ tsp black salt
  • ¼–½ tsp chilli powder, to taste
  • Ice cubes
  • Guava wedges and red chilli, for garnish

Method

  1. Blend: Add chopped guava, chilled water, lime juice, cumin powder, black salt and honey/jaggery syrup to a blender. Blend until smooth.
  2. Strain: Strain the mixture if you prefer a smoother drink and want to remove the guava seeds.
  3. Prepare the glasses: Rub a lime wedge around the rim and dip it into a mixture of chilli powder + black salt.
  4. Assemble: Fill each glass halfway with ice. Pour in the guava mixture.
  5. Garnish: Add a guava wedge, a thin chilli slice and a sprinkle of chilli powder.

For an extra spicy twist Muddle 1–2 thin slices of fresh green chilli with the lime juice before adding the guava mixture.

Handy Tips :

  1. Do wash and soak the guavas in water mixed with salt and baking soda to get rid of any pesticides.
  2. Guavas need to be bit soft and ripe for this recipe
  3. You can make the guava pulp and refrigerate it couple of days ahead and it’s ready to use when you please.
  4. For a fizzy mocktail feel free to add soda to the recipe.
  5. Adding a tsp of soaked basil seeds to the drink will further it’s fibre intake.
