In India the festive season has just started.
All the celebrations come with their own signature recipes and most of them are either sweet or deep-fried. And you will agree, after a while we crave for something fresh and tangy. This recipe is just that.
This Guava Chilli Mocktail is a tropical drink that hits all the right notes with its mix of sweet guava, tangy lime, and a little spicy chilli powder. It is sure to give you that much refreshing break.
Do use the pink variety of guavas which imparts a beautiful pink hue to the drink.
Ingredients
- 1 cup ripe guava, chopped
- ½ cup chilled water
- 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
- 1–2 tsp honey
- ¼ tsp roasted cumin powder
- ¼ tsp black salt
- ¼–½ tsp chilli powder, to taste
- Ice cubes
- Guava wedges and red chilli, for garnish
Method
- Blend: Add chopped guava, chilled water, lime juice, cumin powder, black salt and honey/jaggery syrup to a blender. Blend until smooth.
- Strain: Strain the mixture if you prefer a smoother drink and want to remove the guava seeds.
- Prepare the glasses: Rub a lime wedge around the rim and dip it into a mixture of chilli powder + black salt.
- Assemble: Fill each glass halfway with ice. Pour in the guava mixture.
- Garnish: Add a guava wedge, a thin chilli slice and a sprinkle of chilli powder.
For an extra spicy twist Muddle 1–2 thin slices of fresh green chilli with the lime juice before adding the guava mixture.
Handy Tips :
- Do wash and soak the guavas in water mixed with salt and baking soda to get rid of any pesticides.
- Guavas need to be bit soft and ripe for this recipe
- You can make the guava pulp and refrigerate it couple of days ahead and it’s ready to use when you please.
- For a fizzy mocktail feel free to add soda to the recipe.
- Adding a tsp of soaked basil seeds to the drink will further it’s fibre intake.
