If you have PMOS and have been struggling with weight loss, cravings or insulin resistance, you may have heard about GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide or tirzepatide.
And perhaps you’re wondering: “Could this finally be the answer?”
The conversation around GLP-1 medications and PCOS is growing, but there is an important distinction to understand: GLP-1 medications may be a useful medical tool for some women with PCOS, but they are not a cure for PMOS.
Lets understand What are GLP-1 medications?
GLP-1 receptor agonists and related medications work on pathways involved in appetite, blood glucose regulation and satiety. They can help some people lose significant amounts of weight and improve metabolic health.
This is particularly relevant in PMOS because insulin resistance is common in the condition.
However, weight is only one part of PMOS. PMOS can also involve irregular ovulation, excess androgens, acne, unwanted hair growth, menstrual irregularity and fertility challenges.
Losing weight doesn’t automatically resolve all of these issues.
So, can GLP-1s help women with PMOS?
For some women, yes.
If a woman with PMOS also has overweight or obesity and metabolic complications, a GLP-1 medication may be considered as part of a broader treatment plan under appropriate medical supervision.
But here’s what I don’t want women to believe:
“I need a GLP-1 because I have PMOS.”
You don’t automatically need medication because you have PMOS, And you certainly shouldn’t feel that medication means you’ve failed. My approach is to look at the whole woman, not just the number on the weighing scale.
Where does nutrition come in? Whether or not someone uses a GLP-1 medication, nutrition remains important.
We need to think about:
- Adequate protein to help preserve muscle
- Fibre-rich foods
- Micronutrient adequacy
- Blood sugar management
- Hydration
- Sustainable eating habits
- Strength training and movement
And if someone is taking a GLP-1, nutrition becomes even more important because reduced appetite can sometimes make it difficult to consume enough protein and essential nutrients.
My Vision & Mission
My vision is to change the way women understand their bodies, from fear and restriction to awareness and nourishment.
My mission is not to put every woman on another diet.
It’s to help women understand why their body is responding the way it is and create habits they can actually sustain.
That’s why I created my 100-Day Transformation Program.
Over 100 days, we work on the foundations, personalised nutrition, sustainable habits, blood sugar balance, movement, accountability and understanding what your body needs.
Because the goal isn’t simply: “How quickly can I lose weight?”
The better question is: “How can I become healthier in a way I can maintain?”
If you have PMOS and you’re struggling with weight, cravings or metabolic health, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
