Goa relies mainly on tourism, fishing and agriculture for revenue. People take up jobs in the hospitality industry in order to earn a livelihood. But what does one do when all of these options are most likely in peril for various reasons? For example, no safety in Goa for tourists anymore, exhausted fishing spots and fields being taken by the government in the name of progress? Or even the qualified and sometimes, overqualified that have trouble finding jobs? How does one manage to gain employment in this day and age? Enter an event like the three-day Goa Biz Fest which aims giving people a chance to find gainful employment in different fields.
Goa Biz Fest 2018
Goa is all set to host the Goa Biz Fest 2018 from the 8th of February. It’s going to be a 3-day business meet up. The key objective here is to come together and work towards creating employment and help people brush up on their employability skills in Goa, said Rajkumar Kamat, the executive director for BNI Goa region.
It’s a joint effort between the BNI-Goa region and the GEMS Trust. The Goa government and the NRB group are also lending support for the three-day Goa Biz Fest. This year will be the 3rd year that the event is running and is expected to attract approximately 5000 people or more.
What are the employment opportunities at Goa Biz Fest?
At a press event in the city last evening, Mr Kamat said that the Chief Minister would share his views on the topic: ‘Goa Vision 2022’ on February 9, the second day of the three-day event. The State IT and Labour Minister Rohan Khaunte will inaugurate the event on February 8.
Mr Manjo Patil, the president of GEMS Trust, also addressed the press at the same media event. He said that this three-day business convention was split into several interesting verticals which include, knowledge summits, the start-up conclave, the career and job fair and the biz expo with its 100-plus trade stalls.
The technology section looks and sounds most promising. According to Mr Patil, on the first morning of the Biz Fest, this section would see a variety of sessions. The topics include ‘opportunities in emerging technologies’ and ‘Goa, the next tech hub’ and much more. The afternoon will see the much-awaited GEMS ‘entrepreneur of the year’ award being announced in five categories and a session on ‘scaling up your business’.
The Biz Fest is for people from different aspects of the business world. You can be an entrepreneur, a student looking for opportunities, a job-seeker or any kind of professional among others. There is something for everyone at this one-of-a-kind business extravaganza.

According to Kamat, the prominent speakers at the GBF 2018 include, Padma Bhushan Ajai Chowdhry, co-founder, HCL company and chairman of the board, IIT-Patna, Norm Dominguez, vice chairman emeritus, BNI Global, Shubhvilas Das, popular author and motivational speaker, Ajay Thakur, president, BSE-SME Exchange, Shrinivas Dempo, chairman, Dempo Group, Narayan Bandekar, chairman, NRB Group, M Anand, principal counsellor, Indian Green Building Council, Gautam Goradia, chairman, ComSur, Gaurav Singhvi, executive director, BNI-Surat, GC Mishra, chief, fire services, Delhi, besides leading industrialists and bureaucrats from Goa.
