Newly appointed Goa Governor Honourable Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, on Thursday, spent an afternoon walking through the layered history of the Aguad Port and Jail Complex at Sinquerim, a 400 years-old heritage site that has been restored as a reminder of Goa’s colonial past and the region and its people’s fight for liberation.
The Governor was accompanied by historian Sanjeev Sardessai, for a guided tour around the heritage complex, who informed him about the historical significance of the 17th-century site, exploring the grounds of Port and Jail complex.
“We were delighted to host the honourable Goa Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju who visited the Aguad Port and Jail Complex. The Governor was pleased to witness first-hand the various aspects on display at the heritage complex, including the Aguad Interactive Museum,” according to Savio Mathias, VP Operations and Business Development, Aguad Port and Jail Complex.
During the Governor’s first tour of the Aguad Port and Jail Complex, Sardessai provided detailed insights on the history and heritage of the site and their relevance. At the Aguad Interactive Museum, located within the complex, the Governor explored various sections, including the ‘People and Culture’ wing, which traces Goa’s freedom struggle alongside everyday life under colonial rule and offers greater insight into the region’s heritage.
