The Reis Magos – Panjim Ropeway will finally see the light of day! The state cabinet on Friday, 2nd September, finally gave its approval for setting up a Ropeway between Panjim and Reis Magos .

There is no doubt that the ropeway would primarily be used as a tourist attraction to transport tourists from the capital city of Panjim across the River Mandovi to the Reis Magos Fort. However, reports stated that ‘off-season’, citizens may utilize it as a means of transport across the River.

The project will be taken up on a Public Private Partnership (PPP). The foundation stone is expected to be laid next month. Menus Adventures Pvt. Ltd. in a association with Doppelmayr Garavent Group will pay 5 per cent of its annual gross turnover from this project to the government as revenue. The project is likely to be completed within 18 – 24 months.

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar at a cabinet meeting said that the government is in the process of increasing the recreational facilities in the state and the ropeway is just a part of this endeavour.

According to sources, this project will generate 200 direct and 700 indirect jobs. The building in Panjim (facilitating the cable cars) will have a basement parking. Also, one hour at night would be reserved for dinner in the cable car on the ropeway to add to the appeal.
