As part of its ongoing centenary celebrations, Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, one of Goa’s oldest and most prestigious social clubs, will host a special lecture titled ‘Sacred Groves of Goa’. Open to all, the lecture will feature an engaging audio-visual presentation by Dr Derek Monteiro, who holds a PhD in Management Studies and a masters in Eco-Tourism. Over the past six years, Dr Monteiro has conducted extensive research documenting the intricate web of Goa’s sacred groves, highly revered by local communities.
The lecture will venture into the fascinating history, myths, ceremonial rituals and everyday lives shaped by these sacred spaces. It will bring to light how the groves preserve biodiversity, local identity and spiritual practices. The event is especially significant as it aligns with the club’s march toward a centenary milestone.
