For Mausam Tari, founder and designer at Akrtivya Interior Design Studio, interior design is not simply about creating visually appealing spaces. It is about understanding how people live and translating those everyday habits, preferences and personalities into thoughtful interiors. Based in Goa, Mausam has built Akrtivya with a focus on warm, elegant and timeless spaces that balance aesthetics with the practical realities of daily life.

Her journey into the field was not entirely planned. After completing her 10th standard, she pursued a Diploma in Architecture at KLE University in Hubli. She then began working under a civil engineer, where she was introduced to AutoCAD drafting. While the technical side of drafting did not immediately appeal to her, the experience unexpectedly sparked an interest in interiors. That realisation encouraged her to leave her first job and join an interior design firm, where she gained valuable exposure to design processes and, importantly, the realities of executing projects on site.

With experience and a clearer understanding of the industry, Mausam and her brother decided to take the next step and establish Akrtivya Interior Design Studio together.

From a Change in Direction to a Design Studio

Leaving her first job became an important turning point in Mausam’s professional journey. Rather than continuing along a path that did not feel right, she chose to trust her instincts and explore the growing interest she had developed in interiors. That decision shaped more than her career; it also influenced the way she approaches design today.

Mausam believes strongly in keeping goals clear and trusting the power of the subconscious mind to remain focused on them. Her own journey reflects that mindset. Akrtivya may still be a young studio, but it has already completed four false ceiling projects, a modular kitchen and a complete 2–3BHK interior project. For Mausam, the achievement is particularly meaningful because the studio was built from scratch with her brother, while earning the trust of homeowners early in its journey.

Designing Around the Way People Live

Akrtivya offers false ceilings, modular kitchens, bedrooms and full-home interiors, with every project beginning long before materials are selected or construction starts. The studio’s approach centres on understanding the space, the people who use it and the routines that shape their everyday lives.

Mausam takes time to understand who lives in the home, who cooks, how frequently guests visit and how the family spends its evenings. These seemingly simple details can reveal more about a client’s requirements than a collection of reference images. Once the lifestyle is understood, the studio develops the layout, works through the design details and then moves into execution.

This process allows the final space to feel personal rather than generic. Whether the project involves a single modular kitchen or an entire home, Akrtivya follows the same principle: thoughtful planning first, followed by careful execution.

Warm, Elegant and Designed to Last

Akrtivya’s aesthetic is rooted in warmth, elegance and timelessness. Rather than following trends that may quickly become dated, Mausam prefers designs that can continue to feel relevant and comfortable years after completion.

Luxury has a place within her interiors, but it is never allowed to compromise usability. A beautiful feature has little value if it makes everyday life difficult. For that reason, each design decision is considered from two perspectives: how it looks and how it will function over time.

Material selection forms an important part of this philosophy. Materials influence not only the appearance of an interior but also its durability and overall character. Lighting is equally significant, capable of transforming the mood and perception of an entire room. Carefully coordinated colours bring visual harmony, while smaller elements such as panels, handles and other custom details give a space a finished and individual character. Together, these elements create interiors that feel considered without becoming excessive.

From Concept to Site

The transition from a design concept to a finished interior requires close coordination, and this is an area where Akrtivya’s sibling-led structure plays an important role. While Mausam focuses on design, her brother handles the site, allowing communication between the creative and execution sides to remain direct.

Detailed drawings are prepared so that carpenters and other workers can clearly understand the intended design. Mausam also makes regular site visits, recognising that small issues are easier to identify and correct during the early stages than after work has progressed.

For the studio, good execution begins with good preparation. Clear planning, communication and attention to detail help reduce complications further down the line and allow the finished space to remain faithful to the original concept.

Building Through Honesty and Trust

At the heart of Akrtivya’s approach are three values: honesty, quality and trust. The studio believes in being transparent with clients about what can and cannot be achieved, while remaining committed to delivering what has been promised.

Rather than rushing projects, the emphasis is on doing the work properly and maintaining the quality of execution. This approach has become particularly important for a young studio building its reputation through each project and client relationship.

For Mausam, successful interior design is ultimately about more than completing a project. It is about creating a home that works for the people who live in it and building enough trust for clients to feel confident throughout the process.

A Designer Who Keeps Learning

Outside her professional work, Mausam has developed another creative outlet through content creation. She creates reels centred on interior design, old architecture and art, often explaining these subjects in a simple and accessible manner.

The content reflects her wider curiosity about design and the built environment. She considers herself someone who is still learning every day, and that willingness to continue exploring informs her approach to both her work and her creative interests.

Her journey also demonstrates that a design career does not always begin with a perfectly defined plan. Sometimes, discovering what does not work can be just as important as finding what does.

Looking Towards a Bigger Future

Akrtivya’s ambitions extend well beyond its early projects. Mausam envisions the studio becoming one of the recognised interior design names in Goa and eventually across India. The long-term goal is to take on larger and more luxurious residences, build a strong team and establish a reputation associated with thoughtful design and quality execution.

As the studio grows, its challenge will be to expand its capabilities while retaining the personal approach that has shaped its early work. For Mausam, the foundation remains clear: understand the client, plan carefully, design with purpose and execute with integrity.

Designing a Home That Belongs to Its People

For homeowners planning a renovation or a new interior, Mausam’s advice is straightforward: do not rush the process. Before choosing colours, furniture or finishes, it is important to understand how the home will actually be used. Establishing a realistic budget and prioritising quality in areas such as kitchens and storage can make a significant difference to long-term satisfaction.

She also encourages homeowners to look beyond constantly changing online trends. A design that looks appealing in a social media reel may not necessarily suit the people living in the space. The same applies to seeking opinions from too many friends and relatives. Ultimately, the home belongs to its residents, and its design should reflect their lifestyle rather than someone else’s preferences.

That belief captures the essence of Akrtivya Interior Design Studio. For Mausam Tari, the goal is not to create a home that simply photographs well. It is to create one that feels natural, comfortable and personal to the people who call it their own.
