Goa, March 17 2026: Manipal Hospital Goa has achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing 100 robotic surgeries and currently using the advanced VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution. This achievement was accomplished under the expertise of Dr. Rohan R. Desai, Consultant – Hip & Knee Replacement Surgeon, Orthopaedics, and his dedicated team, marking a major leap in precision-led orthopaedic care in the state. This milestone reflects the hospital’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge medical technologies that enhance surgical accuracy, patient safety, and long-term clinical outcomes.

The VELYS Robotic System, designed for total and partial knee replacements, enables highly personalised and minimally invasive procedures. With real-time intraoperative insights, data-driven precision, and advanced soft-tissue balancing, the system supports reduced post-operative pain, faster recovery, and improved functional outcomes. Cruciate-Retaining Total Knee Replacement offers significant advantages by preserving the native posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), which supports more natural knee movement, enhances proprioception, and contributes to improved long-term implant performance compared to posterior-stabilised designs.

Speaking on the achievement, Dr. Rohan Desai, said, “Reaching the 100-surgery milestone is a proud moment for our team. As part of these procedures, we are currently performing knee replacements using the VELYS robotic system. As a result, patients experience quicker recovery, better mobility, and improved long-term outcomes. We are committed to bringing world-class advancements to Goa and elevating the quality of orthopaedic care.”

He further added that the use of this technology has enabled the routine adoption of Cruciate-Retaining Total Knee Replacement implants, ensuring more natural joint function for patients undergoing knee replacement surgery.

Adding to this, Mr. Surendra Prasad, Hospital Director, Manipal Hospital Goa said, “The successful completion of 100 robotic-assisted surgeries in such a short span reflects our commitment to bringing advanced, technology-driven healthcare to Goa. Achievements like this highlight our commitment to expanding access to modern orthopaedic care while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and patient outcomes.”

The hospital’s adoption of robotic-assisted surgery has also led to increasing patient confidence, with more individuals opting for advanced orthopaedic procedures due to reduced complications and enhanced functional recovery.

Manipal Hospital Goa continues to strengthen its orthopaedic programme with expert clinicians, patient-centric care protocols, and the latest surgical technologies. With the successful completion of 100 robotic surgeries, the hospital reaffirms its position as one of Goa’s leading centres for advanced bone and joint care.
