There are over 400 shops and kiosks conducting business in the congested new market, Margao. To make matters worse, encroachments still continue and the authorities seem to have turned a blind eye.
Sources say that for the last couple of years, raids were conducted on a few occasions, but the civic body failed to make any serious effort to clear passages and footpaths in the market.
Market inspector Anil Shirodkar, denying all allegations, said “we do our rounds in the new market on daily basis. Goods are mostly displayed. If lot of space is occupied outside a shop then we do take action.”
Hope to see the necessary action taken soon, as many locals face inconvenience and this can affect tourism in South Goa.
