Thirty five-year-old Nagesh Naik advanced to the next third round in the ongoing Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2024 defeating Pramod Umarje (6-3) in the men’s singles category.
Naik, who has participated in the premier state-ranking tournament over the last nine years, will now face-off Prajat Halankar.
In other matches in the men’s singles category, Maaz beat Shantanu Joshi (6-0), Ashwin Narsinghani defeated Dr. Suraj Patlekar (6-0), Shantanu beat Siddharth (6-1), while Santosh, Vivek and Rahul Sakpal defeated Mackelroy, Dunstan Dias and Anup without losing a single game.
The men’s singles category also witnessed contests between Shaurya Awasthi who defeated Pratham Fadte (7-5), Joshua P beat Sravan D (7-5), Sreyas Prasad swept aside Aryan Mathure’s challenge (6-0), Aman Shetty beat Apoorv Bamba (6-1), Pankaj C beat Kedar Tari (6-0), Caetano Fernandes beat Smital Kamat (7-5), Bharath Paul Singh beat Rohish (6-1) and Vishal beat Tanay Amonkar (6-0).

The men’s doubles category also witnessed numerous battles with Prithvi Naik/Deepak Nahak defeating Joshua Pereira/Joseph Pereira (6-2), Raju/Santosh overcame Pankaj N/Saurabh T (6-1), Anurag/Jai beat Tanay/Manoj P (6-3), Gareth/Zyrell beat Gary/Krishna (6-3), Santosh/Prathmesh beat Prajat/Rohan N (6-2), Maaz/Prateek beat Aman/Pranab M (6-4), Vishal/Sreyas P beat Rahul/Narendra (6-0) and R. Sakpal/S. Raghav beat Shankar/Radhe (6-4).
In the five matches in the women’s singles category, Manuela beat Sharon C (6-0), Tithee Bhoomkar beat Janavi (6-3), Sanika Kambli beat Sanjanna Agarwal (6-1), Ashwini beat Astha (6-4) and Anya Tewari beat Tashina (6-0).
In all, 479 tennis players have registered for the event, out of which 234 players have registered under the veteran’s category, while 245 players have registered for the open category. The annually held Gadre Gaspar Dias Open tournament, which is played on tennis courts at the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias and the Panjim Gymkhana, is considered an essential milestone for tennis players keen to improve their state rank in the racquet sport.
