It’s become truly disheartening to read the newspapers these days. All we see or hear about are deaths due to rash and negligent driving. It’s really very heartbreaking to read about so many young lives going back to their maker.
Death by rash and negligent riding
Today’s TOI brought news of yet another death. This time a 25-year old male, a resident of Arpora was killed last night in an accident.
The Anjuna police say that the accident happened early Monday morning at around 3:30 am. A scooter rider, Zakhaman Pun, 24, a resident of Betim, was proceeding towards Arpora. He was riding quite rashly. As he reached Arpora, he crashed into another bike rider, 25-year old Prathmesh Malwankar, coming from the opposite direction.
Both riders suffered injuries. Unfortunately, in the case of Mr. Malwankar, he was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Mr. Pun was discharged after his minor injuries were seen to.
Malwankar’s body has been handed over to his family members after the autopsy.
Meanwhile, police registered a case under Section 279, 304-A of Indian Penal Code against the accused Pun who was arrested and later released on bail against a bail bond of Rs 10,000.
The Anjuna police are investigating the case further.
