It’s a car that is often seen on Goa’s roads. With such an iconic shape, the Beetle is possibly one of the most popular vehicles on the planet. Known as the ‘people’s car’, its concept and its functional objectives, was formulated by the leader of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler, who wanted a cheap, simple car to be mass-produced for his country’s new road network. The Bug, as it is also famously known, recently turned 80 and around the same time, it was announced that the wonderfully quaint automobile would no longer be sold in India.
But luckily for Goa, the dream isn’t quite over. Beetle enthusiasts, Jaydeep and Sheetal Rajebhosale, the owners of Marbela, the famous club and boutique hotel in Morjim, have decided to name their new pub, launching in Porvorim this Tuesday, after the iconic Volkswagen Beetle car.

Jaydeep and Sheetal Rajebhosale are such big fans of the Beetle that they have decided to name their brand new venture after it. In fact, Jaydeep’s fascination with this curvaceous car began at a very early age. The Volkswagen Beetle was also the Rauji Rane family’s first car in the sleepy village of Malinguem in Bicholim. The pub launches on Tuesday, 21st August, with live music by one of the best young bands in Goa today, the Coffee Cats.
The Beetle is a timeless symbol from Hollywood. Movies have been made featuring Beetle cars in them. Remember Walt Disney’s Herbie the Love Bug, a self-driving racing car? There was Brad Pitt’s baseball bat scene in the Fight Club, and even Adam Sandler being run over by a Beetle on the golf course in Happy Gilmore. It’s truly difficult to forget this car even if you try really hard.
And of course, there will definitely be something yummy for the foodies looking for a new eating joint. The Beetle Pub will serve up some finger-licking delights and of course drinks for the truly thirsty ones. The food promises to be a foodie’s dream come true with food concepts like Broccoli Cakes with Beetroot Mayo, Breakfast pizza, Potato croquettes with Aioli and lots more. The bar is well stocked with all your favorite champagnes, beers and spirits and even you can even opt for their signature cocktails.

The Beetle Pub also promises to bring you some great entertainment. Everyone loves to listen or dance to great music or enjoy a good comedy show. The management has tied up with some of Goa’s leading curators to organize music, comedy and other trendy events. The musical entertainment will lean towards live rock and roll and pop rather than electronic, as is the norm in casual pub environments.
Location
Anyone familiar with Porvorim won’t have trouble finding the place. And even if you’re not, it’s easy to locate the pub as it’s situated in a quiet neighborhood between the NH17 and the CHOGM Road at the Casabela Boutique Hotel.
With plush interiors, plasma tv screens on the walls, and a long bar, the Beetle Pub hopes to be the smoothest new ride in town! Check it out after the 21st of August.
