In association with the department of art and culture and Tarangi Sanskruti Pratishtan , the 12th edition of the Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki music festival will be held on September 25 and 26 at Kala Academy.
Born in the village of Mangueshi Goa, Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki was a vocalist, composer and scholar of Indian classical, semi-classical, and devotional music. While he distinguished himself in Hindustani music, he is also credited for revival of the Marathi musical theatre in the 1960s.
The two-day festival will begin at 10am and will go on up until 10pm on both days.
The event is organised in memory of late maestro Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki. The event will showcase a line-up of 16 classical musicians and dancers of international repute along with a few local artists. The performers include professionals like vocalists Pt.Vinayak Torvi, Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar and Rajendra Kothamekar. Kathak exponent Prerna Deshpande will also be performing among others.
Pt. Jitendra Abhisheki’s son Shaunak expressed his views on the festival by saying, “A big event like this where 16 artists perform for two days has managed to sustain itself for 12 years. All of this has been possible due to the efforts of Kala Academy, the state department of art and culture and support from Goan spectators.”
