Patoienchem Fest
15th August is not only Indian Independence Day but also the Feast of Our Lady of Assumption. On this day Goans make a sweet called ‘Patoleo’. These steamed pancakes have a unique flavour – made from raw rice paste, stuffed with freshly grated coconut and palm jaggery, wrapped in a turmeric leaf and steamed. In keeping with tradition, the festival is named ‘Patoienchem Fest’ (Festival of Patoleos), where plenty of Patoleos will be up for grabs.
