Authorities in MAPUSA are increasing safety and security measures ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi festivities.
Meeting with Mandals
Mapusa police recently conducted a meeting with all Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals. Representatives of the Mandals were briefed about the measures to be adopted. Mapusa Police Officials Mahesh Gaonkar and Tushar Lotlikar advised the representatives of 11 Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals about the precautionary measures and their grievances.
Measures include proper access, installation of CCTV cameras, arrangements for fire-fighting equipment, proper illumination, avoiding bursting of fire crackers in public places and ensuring proper illumination at the time of immersion. Further, mandal organizers were asked to issue identification badges to all their members and volunteers.
Shifting of Stalls
Mapusa Municipal Council has served notices to 16 fireworks stall owners. Directing them to remove temporary stalls erected in the market. The MMC also directed them not to carry out any illegal trading of fireworks.
Bardez deputy collector which was held under the supervision of Joint mamlatdar Ravi Nipanikar had proposed to shift all stalls pertaining to the Ganesh festival including fireworks stalls, matoli and other items to the outskirts of the market to avoid congestion and regulate traffic.
With intense patrolling, I am optimistic that this festive season will indeed be a joyous and safe one.
