Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said prostitution and escort services in Goa are run online in a professional manner. He said this in a written reply to Margao MLA Digambar Kamat’s question in the State Assembly. Prostitution rackets are run in the guise of escort websites.
The modus operandi is usually uncovered by the police using decoy customers to apprehend culprits involved in running these services in Goa. Besides, the police department has also asked for keywords such as ‘escort services in Goa’, ‘Goa escort’, ‘escort Goa’ to be disabled in the search engines.
“The contact numbers and email addresses published on the escort sites are analyzed, the ownership established and the data is shared with crime branch for further action. The Cyber Crime Police Station is empowered to register cases only under Immoral Traffic Act and Intellectual property rights related cases. The cases under ITP Act (Immoral Traffic Prevention Act) are not registered at Cyber Crime police station,” said Parsekar.
This is a good step in the right direction. We can applaud the Government on its initiative to make Goa ‘Clean and Green’.
