Record 479 participants register for the Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2024 State-Level Tennis Tournament

Panaji, Jan – A record number of participants have registered across various categories for the upcoming 9th edition of the Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2024, a state-level tennis tournament, which will get underway at the Clube Gaspar Dias premises in Miramar from January 25, organisers said. 

In all, 479 tennis players have registered for the event, out of which 234 have registered under the veterans category, while 245 players have registered for the open category. In 2023, 386 participants had registered for the tournament, which is considered an essential milestone for tennis players keen to improve their state rank in the racquet sport. 

Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Goa’s first tennis club, along with the Gadre Group, has partnered with the Goa State Tennis Association to organise the annual tournament. 

The categories in the veterans’ segment are veteran singles 45+, veteran singles 55+, veteran singles 60+, veteran doubles 90+ (min age 35 yrs), veteran doubles 110 + (min age 45 yrs) and veteran doubles 120+ (min age 45 yrs). The 9th instalment of the Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2024 will also witness the second edition of the veterans 35+ mixed doubles category, for which six teams have registered so far. 

The open category includes six sub-categories which are, under-12 (girls and boys), under-16 (girls and boys), mixed doubles, men’s singles, men’s doubles and ladies singles.

“The ninth edition of the Gadre Gaspar Dias Open has witnessed a significant increase in registration numbers compared to the previous year. Tournaments like these enhance the passion for sports among both young enthusiasts and seasoned players,” said Rajendra Godinho, secretary of the Goa State Tennis Association. 

“For many years, we have been associated with the Gadre Gaspar Dias Open. It has been an exceptional experience to partner with this much looked-forward to tournament. It is our goal to establish this tournament as a recurring event in India’s tennis calendar,” said Arjun Gadre, owner of the Gadre Group, the tournament’s main sponsor. 

The tournament’s open category matches will begin on January 29 and conclude on February 4, while matches in the veterans’ category will begin on January 25 and conclude on January 28.
