
The Department of Physical Education and Sports at Don Bosco College, Panjim, organized an exciting Inter-Class Football Tournament from August 9th to 14th. This event showcased the college’s commitment to promoting sports and physical activity among its students and faculty. The tournament was structured into two formats: a 9-aside format for the men’s teams and a 5-aside format for the women’s teams, with faculty members also actively participating and adding to the event’s enthusiasm.
In the men’s category, 21 classes participated, and TYBCA A emerged as champions. TYBBA secured the runner-up position, demonstrating strong competition among the teams. The final score was 1-0. Agnel Faria from TYBCA A stood out and was awarded the Best Player (Male) title, highlighting his exceptional skills and contribution to his team’s victory.
In the women’s category, 15 classes took part, and SYBBA clinched the championship title. SYBBA T&T followed closely as runners-up, showcasing the competitive spirit and talent in the women’s teams. The final match ended in a draw, and the winner was decided by a tiebreaker, where each team was given three shots. SYBBA won with a score of 1-0.
Ms Valerie Carvalho, a faculty member from the BBA department, was recognized as the Best Player (Female), demonstrating her dedication and prowess in the sport.
The closing ceremony of the tournament was graced by esteemed guests who added prestige and significance to the event. Ms Ayesha Alvares, a former staff member of the college , former football player and currently IPES of Nirmala, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Principal Dr. Cedric Silveira attended as the Guest of Honor, alongside Director of Physical Education Mr. Ryan Pereira and Instructor in Physical Education Ms. Prissie Fernandes. Their presence underscored the importance of the event and the college’s commitment to fostering a culture of sports and physical excellence.
Overall, the Inter-Class Football Tournament was a resounding success, highlighting the talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship of the participants. It served as a wonderful platform for students and faculty to come together, compete, and celebrate their love for the sport.
