Russians Vote Again ;
Russian Nationals living in Goa, were privileged to cast their ballot from Goa.
On Thursday, Ballot Box voting was held at a temporary booth in Porvorim, (a village in North Goa, around 5 km from Panaji), at the office of Vikram Varma, legal counsel of the Russian Consulate in Mumbai. Two representatives, Sergey Lunev, Head of the Mumbai branch of the Russian Trade Representation, and Vice Consul Alexey Strukov were deputed to Goa as election officers, as per a BS report. The elections are being held for 450 seats in the Duma.
The Russian Consulate in Mumbai said that “Consul General has taken all necessary measure to ensure the rights of the Russian nationals present in Goa to cast their vote.” as per Sputnik news.
The voting in Russia is scheduled on September 18, but in Goa, the voting was held earlier as the ballot boxes are to be transferred to Mumbai and sent to Russia.
Usually, voting is undertaken inside the embassy or at a Russian Consulate. But, because thousands of Russians visit Goa for their holidays, special arrangements were made. Around 70 thousand Russian nationals visit Goa every tourist season.
“Most of the Russians were thrilled that they were able to cast their vote while in Goa,” Varma was quoted to have said, as per a BS report.
