Ruta Kahate and Neville Desouza have created a whole concept of a trendy San Francisco café right in North Goa. Ruta’s Roadhouse is a local eatery with a global menu. It’s an experience that does not leave a ‘hole’ in your stomach or in your wallet. The stylish yet laid back place is situated in bye lanes of Assagao. Warm, bright, effervescent…enter those glassed doors and the ambience just envelops you. The counter that dominates the center has baked items on display under Perspex cloche covers. Foccacia, pita bread, Brioche (4 varieties), hot dog buns the list goes on… There is a cozy niche with a ‘chat with chai’ sofa, where one can order a coffee of course and a preparation for the snacky bites. The wall in that corner highlights yesteryear artists in the music field. Climb up a flight of steps and you reach a mezzanine floor where there is seating too. The music plays softly in the background as your senses are a sailed with the aroma of freshly baked bread.
The menu is a single laminated page divided into different sections –there is a Gourmet Sandwich section, the Terrific section, the Chunky Salad section, The Comfort food section, the Soulful soups section, the Drink, sweet and snaky bites…and please do not miss the Fab fries. Talking about the comfort food…the Jambalaya with the local chorizo…the sausage is from Neville’s family farm..farm fresh products. For desserts try the Tres Leches (Mexican) it’s a 3 milk cream pudding and the Sticky Bun with cashew nut. Take a peek into Ruta’s Roadhouse…just the type to play havoc with your taste buds.
The restaurant was formerly known as Ruta’s World Cafe and was based in Margao.
