Eighth edition of Semana da Cultura Indo – Portuguesa (Goa) set to begin

 The eighth edition of the Indo-Portuguese culturally rich ‘Semana da Cultura’ will begin shortly.  This year too will see a celebration of Indian and Portuguese culture. This will include art, cinema, music, poetry, cuisine, films and more. logo-semana-da-cultura

Dr. Rui Carvalho Baceira, Consul General of Portugal in Goa is the Convenor of the Executive Committee.  Mr. Orty Soares is Chairman of the Executive Committee planning the event.

Orty Soares said, “Indian and Portugal are both regions steeped in rich heritage and culture. India is a mingling of diverse cultures, all special in their own way. Goa too has its own unique identity and culture which is a blend of Indian and western nuances. Goa has assimilated the essence of both regions where people coexist in harmony and joy. Through this event Semana da Cultura Indo – Portuguesa (Goa) we would like to share and enjoy the essence of our diverse culture.”

Art Exhibition

The event will begin with an art exhibition, a fado singing competition, a film festival, music workshops and an evening of Indo-Portuguese cuisine and music.

The art elisbon-calling-semana-cultura-8th-editionxhibition titled ‘Lisbon Calling’ by celebrated artist Deviprasad Rao will be held at The Maquinez Palace, Panjim. Scheduled from 26th September – 28th September, 10:30am – 07:00pm. This exhibition is supported by the Consul General of Portugal in Goa. The exhibition will be curated by Nalini Elvino de Souza.

Institute Menezes Braganza in collaboration with Semana da Cultura Indo-Portuguesa (Goa)  will host the fado singing competition at its hall on 27th of November.

Semana da Cultura Indo-Portuguesa (Goa) have also partnered with Fundação Oriente. Fundação Oriente will host the popular musical event ‘Vem Cantar’ with Institute Camoes. Institute Camoes will also be organising a Portuguese Poetry writing competition.

One of the key highlights of the cultural celebration is an ‘Evening of Indo-Portuguese Cuisine and Music. This includes a sumptuous selection of Goan – Portuguese cuisine. Celebrated chef Fabio Bernadino from Travel & Flavours will be flying down from Portugal to plan the special Evening of Indo-Portuguese Cuisine and Music.

While in Goa he will be interacting and hosting a masterclass on Portuguese cuisine for Goan chefs.  Scheduled to be held on the 17th of November the event will see a host of Goan musicians perform through the evening.

For all the movie buffs, there will also be the Lusofonia Film Festival. It will highlight a distinct collection of Lusofonia films. This will also be held at Maquinez Palace between 6 and 10 October.
