Panjim, Goa, January 2024: Founded in 1984, South Seas Distilleries (SSDBPL), is one of the oldest malt whisky distilleries in India synonymous with crafting luxury single malt whiskies and spirits. Established by Mr. Viraf Chinoy, the third generation of a legacy that began in 1885, South Seas Distilleries has been a trailblazer in the world of fine spirits.
Mr. Viraf Chinoy paid tribute to the founder’s vision by establishing South Seas with a clear vision to produce fine malt spirits in India back in the day when the world was not ready for Indian Single Malts. South Seas Distilleries back then had embraced cutting-edge technology, sourced from Stewart McBain, Scotland in 1999. Small batches of exceptional single malts earned accolades from Master Distillers worldwide, marking a significant milestone for the distillery.
In 2005, the installation of India’s largest Copper Pot Stills for distillation allowed South Seas to capture the essence of raw ingredients, transforming them into refined spirits with distinctive profiles. The family’s bold step in 2007 involved constructing India’s largest maturation warehouse, despite the nascent market for single malts, demonstrating a passion for innovation. It is one of India’s oldest malt distilleries in Dahanu.

In 2018, South Seas Distilleries garnered international acclaim within the industry by being selected for crafting the first single malt whisky in India for one of the leading global producers of single malt whisky. As of 2023, South Seas Distilleries continues its obsessive pursuit of the finest, crafting exceptional luxury single malt whiskies and spirits. With craftsmanship skills honed across four generations, South Seas stands as a beacon of excellence in the world of spirits.
SSDBPL will soon be announcing its next steps of its journey by launching its own brands in Goa.
