Street Providence, Goa, the NGO that has been working wonders with the poor and needy has now teamed up with an NGO working at ground level in Kerala to help flood victims. “The situation in Kerala is sad and we can’t do much but pray and contribute in whatever way we can to reduce the suffering.”
Therefore Street Providence has set a target to send 1 lac litres of bottled and packaged drinking water and 10000 antiseptic soaps (Dettol or Savlon), 10000 medical dusting powder bottles (Clotrimazole / Abzorb) & 5000 sanitary pads (of any brand) to the affected areas in Kerala.
1 lac litres of packaged drinking water = 10 truckloads, each truckload holds 700 crates of 1-litre bottles. Therefore one truckload of packaged drinking water means that 8400 people can get 1 litre packaged drinking water each.
Having received a discounted rate from the owner of ‘Taan’ packaged bottle drinking water, the cost per truck to the various flood-affected destinations in Kerala is as below:
By Road to Calicut – Rs.81000/-, To Cochin – Rs.90000/-, To Kannur – Rs.80000/- and To Trivandrum – Rs.95000/-
(Street Providence is in the process of “raising resources to purchase and send the bottled drinking water to the above-affected areas”) Monetary help in the form of cheques or fund transfer by NEFT is the need of the hour.
With the flood situation worsening, the need for the following has arisen:
- Good blankets
- Bedsheets
- Towels
- Clothes
- Utensils
- Cutlery
- Plastic items
- Pampers
- Medicines
“We are creating storage facilities at convenient locations.” The above items should only be dropped off at the given facilities created for them and not at the food bank outlets.
“We are tying up with supermarket chains and other convenient outlets where things can be dropped except Clothes and other fabrics”.
Request to the people of Goa:
“This is the top most priority as of now to those people on Kerala. Please drop these items in any quantity at any of our food banks/storage facilities across Goa. We will not collect from your homes. Please do not drop Clothes or Bedsheets or towels at any of our Food Bank outlets. We are working on a list of items and provisions. We have approximately 10 days from today to help our fellow brethren in Kerala.”
