The stage for TedxPanaji 2025 is set, with speakers and innovators getting ready to showcase their ideas at Kala Academy on September 20. This year, adman Ravi Kambhoj, has taken on the mantle of the organiser and curator for its 2025 edition. Known for his work as a creative producer and the man behind events like PechaKucha, Ravi has carved a niche for himself in the event space in Goa. In this conversation, he delves deeper into his work and shares his thoughts behind how he aims to bring global events to the local stage.

What inspired you to take over TEDxPanaji and lead the event?

I have always believed that Goa has an incredible reservoir of stories, ideas and talent that deserves a larger platform. Having worked on creative festivals abroad and witnessing the power of ideas that can shape communities, I felt TEDxPanaji was the right vehicle to bring those voices forward. Taking over the event was not just a choice but a responsibility — to ensure that Goan thinkers, doers and innovators are heard, both locally and globally.

The theme for TEDxPanaji 2025 is “It’s About Time! Before It’s Too Late.” According to you, which are the areas that would need urgent attention?
It’s about time we addressed climate change and sustainability in actionable ways. It’s about time we recognised young innovators solving problems that often go unnoticed. And it’s about time we redefined Goa beyond tourism, making space for creativity, entrepreneurship and knowledge-sharing. Delay in these areas would mean missed opportunities to protect our environment, empower our youth and shape Goa’s future.

How did you go about selecting speakers and what qualities do you look for?
We seek authentic stories and ideas that are both locally relevant and globally resonant. Our speakers range from established thought leaders to first-time storytellers. Diversity is key — across disciplines, generations, and perspectives. Most importantly, each talk must carry an idea worth spreading, one that sparks conversation and action.

What impact do you hope TEDxPanaji will have on Goa’s creative and intellectual community?
I hope TEDxPanaji becomes a catalyst in encouraging people to dream bigger, take risks, and see Goa as more than a leisure destination. If we can shift mindsets, nurture collaborations and give people the confidence to share their voices, we will have succeeded in our efforts.

You began your journey curating festivals in New Zealand. How did those experiences shape your approach to TEDxPanaji?
In New Zealand, I saw how festivals were not just entertainment but spaces where communities came alive. That experience taught me the importance of inclusivity, attention to detail and respect for cultural context. Those lessons guide me today as I organise TEDxPanaji.

What drew you back to Goa after years overseas and how did earlier projects pave the way for TEDxPanaji?
Goa has always been home. After years abroad, I felt a strong pull to give back. My earlier projects, like PechaKucha and other storytelling platforms, allowed me to understand how Goans engage with ideas and culture. They laid the foundation of trust and experimentation that naturally led to TEDxPanaji.

How do you envision Goa’s future as an innovation hub and how do the speakers contribute to that vision?
I see a Goa where local innovators address real challenges and inspire global audiences. Our speakers showcase how deeply rooted, locally relevant ideas can have a worldwide impact. Their presence on the TEDxPanaji stage tells the community that change begins right here.

You’ve created formats like PechaKucha, Kisse Kahania, and Bhadass Bhopu. How is TEDxPanaji different?
Those formats are experimental, playful and personal in different ways. TEDxPanaji carries the weight of the global TED brand, which demands sharp curation and international standards. Yet, at its heart, it has the same mission: to give people a space to be heard.

How do you balance global standards with local authenticity?
It is always a balance. TEDx comes with global guidelines, but the event must feel rooted in Goa. That means embracing our culture, language and stories, while maintaining the production quality TEDx is known for.

Looking ahead, how do you see Goa’s evolution of culture and ideas and what role do you and your team want to play in that space?
Goa is evolving beyond its stereotypes. Young people are creating startups, artists are experimenting and citizens are asking tough questions. I see Goa’s culture and ideas shaping its identity and future. As a team, we want to enable this growth by providing platforms like TEDxPanaji that inspire people to act.

Are there unique elements in TEDxPanaji 2025 that you’re especially excited about?
Yes, this year we are showcasing 20 Goan innovators alongside the 10 speakers. It is our way of spotlighting those quietly doing remarkable work in Goa. We also have four powerful performances that bring energy and creativity beyond words. Together, these elements ensure TEDxPanaji 2025 is not just an event but a living snapshot of Goa’s ideas, talent and spirit.
