Goa’s tennis enthusiasts are in for a rare treat with Indian tennis icon Leander Paes scheduled to make a special on-court appearance at the B.P.S Hall in Margao on 21 Feb at 12 noon alongside the Baale BPS Open 2025 tennis tournament, which is underway.
Paes, a multiple Grand Slam champion, Olympic medal winner and one of India’s most celebrated sports personalities who literally electrified tennis courts with his energy and fist-pumping and chest-bumping style of play, will engage with participants, inspire young players and share playing tips and racquet skills with Goa’s young tennis talent.
Paes shares a Goan lineage thanks to his father Vece, a well-known international hockey legend, who represented India in the 1972 Munich Olympics.
“As part of our commitment to fostering tennis talent and elevating the tournament experience, B.P.S Sports Club has invited Leander Paes to encourage aspiring players and fuel excitement around the sport”, said Yogiraj Kamat, president of the B.P.S Sports Club.
“Fans, participants and tennis lovers will have an exclusive opportunity to meet and interact with the champion, making this event a truly unforgettable experience,” added Vikram Verlekar, Sports Committee Head at B.P.S Sports Club.
The Baale BPS Open 2025 promises to be an exhilarating tournament and with the presence of Leander Paes, the energy and enthusiasm among players is expected to be at an all-time high. The state-level ranking tennis tournament has been supported by Baale Resort Goa, Goa State Tennis Association (GSTA) and organised by the prestigious B.P.S Sports Club in Margao.
