In a remote village of Ponda, Goa, long ago, a chilling legend took root. The village lay nestled among dense greenery, where whispers of the past seemed to rustle through the trees. This peaceful village was haunted by a dark spirit known as the Chedipe, or “Vampire Witch.” The Chedipe was a malevolent spirit, a woman of ancient magic who drained the life force of unsuspecting men.

As night fell, a strange illness began to spread among the men of the village. They grew weaker with each passing night, as if an unseen force was sapping their strength. Fear gripped the villagers as their once vibrant lives began to wither.

The Priest’s Guidance

Desperate for help, the villagers turned to an old priest revered for his knowledge of ancient lore. The priest listened to their tale with grave concern. He revealed that the Chedipe was the cause of their suffering. To protect themselves, the villagers needed to follow his advice: stay indoors after sunset and hang garlands of garlic and neem leaves around their homes. These were believed to ward off the Chedipe’s evil.

A Night of Courage

One particularly dark night, as the village fell into uneasy slumber, a brave young man named Vijay decided to test the priest’s advice. While his neighbors slept, Vijay stayed alert, watching for any sign of the Chedipe.

At the stroke of midnight, a shadowy figure emerged from the forest and crept towards Vijay’s home. The Chedipe, draped in tattered garments and exuding a sinister aura, slipped through the door. Her eyes glowed with a hungry light as she approached Vijay, intent on draining his life force.

The Garlic’s Power

Summoning his courage, Vijay grabbed the garlic garland hanging nearby. With a determined throw, he hurled the garlic at the Chedipe. The witch let out a piercing scream as the garlic burned her spectral form. With a swirl of dark smoke, she vanished into the night.

The Village’s Awakening

The Chedipe’s scream echoed through the village, awakening the frightened villagers. Guided by Vijay, they followed the witch’s trail to an old, abandoned house on the edge of the village. Inside, they discovered a room filled with eerie symbols drawn in dark substances and sinister artifacts. The air was thick with malevolence.

With the priest’s guidance, the villagers performed a cleansing ritual. They chanted ancient prayers and burned sacred herbs to drive away the dark magic. As the flames of the ritual fire died down, a peaceful silence settled over the village.

A Return to Peace

The next morning, the village woke to find their health restored. The mysterious illness had disappeared, and the Chedipe’s terror was over. Though the village returned to its serene life, the memory of the Chedipe lingered as a haunting reminder of the dark forces that once threatened their peaceful existence in Ponda, Goa.
