Blending Indian craftsmanship with sustainable practices, this seasonal line reflects a thoughtful approach to fashion rooted in tradition, simplicity, and comfort for everyday living.
With rising temperatures plaguing the Indian subcontinent over the summer months, The Shop’s new Malmal Mela line comes as a welcome relief from the relentless heat and sweltering humidity of the coast. Made with soft, flowy cotton and incorporating vibrant designs, the Malmal Mela collection promises to help you cool off while staying on trend.
As the sustainable clothing chain’s director Kabir Singh puts it, “This collection was designed with the present climate in mind, while also prioritising sustainability, and using globally inspired techniques as well as Indian craftsmanship to dye and produce clothes.” He adds, “The Malmal Mela collection is a testament to a company dedicated to recognising the talents of artisans and the value of traditional techniques.”
From March through the end of May, The Shop has returned with its Malmal Mela collection once again. After the resounding success of last year’s edition, this re-run, along with a host of new designs, promises to inspire and amaze. The Malmal Mela collection offers not just clothing for men, women, and children, but also elegant dresses and kurtas, stylish tops, shirts and bottoms, an TV d an assortment of home décor that adds character to living spaces.
Founded in Delhi in 1969 by Kamal Singh and Preminder Singh, The Shop is a pioneering brand that not only meets but surpasses expectations. It is now committed to creating something truly remarkable — a brand that thinks global but acts local, catering to the Indian mindset.
Kabir, son of the founders, says: “At our core lies a belief in honouring our artisans, who breathe life into each creation, preserving the essence of traditional craftsmanship. This, coupled with our desire to create a conscious living experience, forms the essence of The Shop — an ode to heritage, elegance and a harmonious blend of cultures.”
Over the years, The Shop has steadily expanded its presence beyond Goa and its flagship store in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR). The brand now boasts outlets in major Indian cities including Mumbai, Kochi, Chandigarh, and Bengaluru. Taking it global, The Shop has an established international footprint, with locations in Japan and New York.
This philosophy of slow, mindful fashion is an articulate expression of the modern Indian consumer’s sensibility, tapping into a growing consciousness about where and how our clothes are made. In an age of fast fashion and fleeting trends, The Shop stands tall with its timeless pieces, and a seasonal collection where airy fabrics meet storytelling prints and careful creation — each stitch holding the weight of craftsmanship.
What sets this collection apart is its deep-rooted authenticity, with hues borrowed from earthy palettes — indigos and forest greens reminiscent of the Indian summer. Every piece, whether a free-flowing kurta or a block-printed bedsheet, feels like luxury, carefully made to suit all occasions.
As this year’s collection graces shelves once more, The Shop invites you not only to wear their story but to create your own. Because in every fibre of cotton, in every brushstroke of dye, there lives a story crafted with love, worn with pride. With a keen eye for design, a deep respect for tradition, and an unwavering commitment to ethical practice, the Singhs have created more than just a brand, they’ve built a legacy.
