An apt heading for the lazy chilled out experience. Holiday Street in Calangute flows with a mass of humanity, and the place aptly called Waves, attached to Dr Subodh Kerkar’s gallery. It’s arm, cosy bistro-style restaurant with a chattai paneled roof, and the bar showcasing a mirrored design…a la Subodh. The inner courtyard under a leafy canopy holds a promise of relaxation redefined with entertainment. However Sarfaraz Alam the man behind this concept has a ‘sushi bar’ to titillate ones palate. For lunch keep your spirits floating by splurging at the ‘S&S’ – sushi and spirits. Enter the waiter with small porcelain cups and a mini jug. He starts the ceremony by pouring a little soya sauce into the cups. It is to mix your wasabi with.
Then the ‘sushi’ California Rolls – let’s gets down to basics…They look colourful on the plate the green wasabi and the pink pickled ginger adding to the hue. The roll tossed in caviar is sweet, fishy and tang-spiced (that was the soya mix). Now this menu has a range of reparations…Tempura Fried Tiger Prawns. Assorted Sushi Rolls, sushi, spicy sushi, temaki with an assortment of choices…Avocado, cucumber, smoked salmon, lobster. But if Sushi is not your choice Sarfaraz recommends the Indian and the Tandoor for dinner. A special recommendation is the Tatlki Murgh Kebab. You can also try his tawa fried laccha parathas. For an afternoon or an evening of blissful ‘floating’ do it on the Waves.
