On World Yoga Day 2022, ItsGoa caught up with Fitness & Lifestyle Coach Liselle D’souza who is a die-hard Yogi and swears by it. Let’s see what she has to say…
Asanas for the Abs? Not necessarily. They mean a lot more:
Get your downward dog on!! Poses or asana practice is what we all typically relate to when we think of yoga. People are eager to learn all of the poses, do the funky headstands, have the yoga butt and abs, and basically tap into their strongest physical body through their practice. I too walked into my first ever yoga class and I fell in love with the practice. I became a diehard yogi but at that time it was mainly the physical aspect that I was super
focused on. Later on in my journey, the physical element was just a vehicle for what I really experienced deep down, an inner peace that was simply indescribable until I learned more.
Yoga is a Discipline, a Therapy, A life Changer
Asana is not something that is only physical culture. It needs your focus, it needs your emotion, and it needs your awareness and caring. Yoga is so much more than the perfect asana; it is about living a healthy and balanced life so you can feel mentally strong and calm. Yoga is a discipline that leads us to individual consciousness, bringing into harmony the body, mind, and spirit. It is the journey of learning to connect to our deepest, most authentic selves and all the others who walk the path with us. The therapeutic effects of yog have been studied in various populations concerning a multitude of different ailments and conditions. Study results show that yogic practices enhance muscular strength and body flexibility, promote and improve respiratory and cardiovascular function, promote recovery from and treatment of addiction, reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain, improve sleep patterns, and enhance overall well-being and quality of life. The sustained practice also leads to important outcomes such as changes in life perspective, self-awareness, and an improved sense of energy to live life fully and with genuine enjoyment.
International World Yoga Day 2022 Theme “YOGA FOR HUMANITY”
Life can be a real stretch! So, stretch a little with yog and stay healthy. Breathe in the goodness, breathe out the stress. Yoga for Humanity has been chosen as the theme of this year’s International Yoga Day as it appropriately describes how yog helped the community in allaying suffering during the pandemic. Pandemic-related restrictions led to stress, anxiety, and depression, and dealing with these issues proved to be challenging. It was
during this time more people around the world embraced yoga, pranayama, and meditation to promote their physical and emotional wellbeing.
Explore the life of great health, embrace yoga, the ancient practice for your better
tomorrow.
