The State Government selected GMR Airport Limited for the construction of Goa’s ‘Dream’ Mopa Airport. The Bengaluru based firm reportedly agreed to share the highest revenue of 36.99% with the state Government. GMR Airport Limited made up the list of 3 bidders out of the 5 who were invited for the online bid of the Airport.
GMR Group is an infrastructural company headquartered in Bengaluru. The company was founded in 1978 by Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao. Employing the Public Private Partnership model, the Group has implemented several infrastructure projects in India.
Essel Infra Project Limited and Airports Authority of India were the other two bidders who participated in the online bid. Voluptas Developers and GVK distanced themselves from the bidding process by not participating. GMR Group currently operates airports at Delhi, Hyderabad and an airport in Philipines.
The cost of the Mopa Airport is reportedly a whopping 4,500 crores.
