Goa will host a meet for the environmental ministers of BRICS countries on September 16. The meet will focus on increasing cooperation among the countries to deal with water and air pollution and climate change. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Anil Madhav Dave will attend the meeting on India’s behalf.

Issues to be discussed at the meet:

  • Liquid and solid waste management
  • Air and water pollution
  • Climate change and conservation of biodiversity

The environmental ministers’ meet is organised by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. It is a part of series of meetings being organised by the various central government ministries prior to BRICS summit next month.

The meet comes at a time when global environmental agreements such as Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development, Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement were adopted last year.
