Goa is known for three Fs; Fish, Football, and Feni. For the uninitiated, Feni is an alcoholic beverage brewed from the juice of the cashew apple, or from coconuts. This fruity alcohol is a favourite among locals, but is now slowly making its way out of its home state of Goa and across India and the world, thanks to the efforts of Hansel Vaz, owner of the Cazulo Premium brand of Feni.
To introduce people to the marvelous world of Feni, Vaz curates and hosts the Cazulo Premium Feni Distillery and Cellar Tour at Fazenda Cazulo. The tour aims to create an unparalleled experience, while you explore this little spirit’s complex tastes and rich history.
What you can expect
A typical day on this one-of-a-kind experience will include a one on one interaction with founder and owner of the Cazulo brand, Hansel Vaz at the charming old style traditional distillery situated in a spice farm and cashew orchard in South Goa. Not only will you get a chance to explore the varieties of Feni including Dukshiri in a unique masterclass, but you will also learn to mix your own cocktails with master mixologist Karl Fernandes. You’ll even get a chance to stomp some cashew apples and contribute to the distillation process if you plan your trip at the right time! This is followed by a traditional Goan feast consisting of a barbecue or a tapas platter, accompanied by live music. And if that’s not enough, at the end of your trip you’ll receive a certificate that declares you an official Feni aficionado.
