As per the national rural monitor that tracks the implementation of the Union government’s flagship schemes, the general quality of life in rural Goa is one of the best in the country. The survey conducted by the Union Ministry of Rural Development states that Goa is the only state to have 100% solid and liquid waste management in rural areas.
Additionally Goa, with a few other states, namely Kerala, Karnataka and the North-Eastern states showed the least signs of open defecation. The national level monitoring survey also records that all the schools visited in the villages of Goa had functional and safe drinking water and toilet facilities.
One of the primary objectives of the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission – Rural’ is to improve the quality of life in rural areas and solid and liquid waste management is one of the key components to be addressed.
