The film industry is big in India. It earns crores and crores of rupees with multiple hit movies that are released every year. Hindi movies are also popular all over the world, especially in countries that have a large Indian population. Today, movies not only come from every genre but they are also dubbed into different languages so that people can watch no matter where in the world they live. Therefore, since there are so many films released each year all over the world, a lot of hardwork and dedication and skill goes into making these. Hence, they all deserve and get recognition for the same. Every year in Goa, we have the International Film Festival of India(IFFI) and this weekend, the Goa State Film Festival.
The Goa State Film Festival 2018
The Goa State Film Festival is in its 9th edition this year. The Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) is hosting the festival starting today, 3rd May until 6th May at the ESG Complex in Panjim. The festival will be inaugurated this evening by the PWD minister, Sudin Dhavalikar and Member of Parliament, Narendra Sawaikar. The first film in the festival’s schedule, K Sera Sera will be shown soon after the inaugural event which begins at 5 pm in Inox screen 1.
An awards function will also be a part of the festival. Vice-chairman of ESG, Rajendra Talak said, “Goa-based cinematographer Suryakant Lavande will be felicitated and awarded with the lifetime achievement award at the award ceremony to be held on May 6.” He was speaking about the festival at a press conference held on Wednesday evening.
14 movies will be shown as a part of the Goa State Film Festival 2018. The awards ceremony will also have a number of performances by people in the field of performing arts and music. “The highlight of the award ceremony will be the performance by Jasraj Joshi who has sung for Rustom, Time Please, Bedardi and other films. A musical performance by Goan singer Sonia Sirsat and a comedy act by Ortencio Pereira from Goa and Imran Shaikh from Bangalore will be held. There will also be dance performances by the dance group Siddhai Mumbai and Amit and Sakshi from Goa,” said Talak.
Celebrity presence at the Goa State Film Festival
Of course, no film festival is ever complete without the presence of some celebrity. The ESG has invited celebrities like Yami Gautam, Sumeet Raghavan, Chinmayee Sumeet, Pallavi Subhash, Nagesh Kukunoor, amongst others. They are believed to be attending the awards function this evening.
There will also be an art exhibition by the students from the Goa College of Art at the Art Gallery. it is open to all as is the film festival.
Also present for the press conference were general manager, ESG, Mrunal Niket Walke; executive council and general body member, ESG, Sachin Chatte and EC member, Sandeep Kundaikar.
